Newry bombers have nothing to offer

This week's car bomb attack outside Newry courthouse was an attempt by dissident republicans to prevent next month's planned transfer of policing and justice powers, said Sinn Féin. The PSNI said it was a "sheer miracle" no one was killed. Officers were left with hardly any time to clear the area around the Newry courthouse before a bomb weighing up to 250lb exploded in a car just after 10pm on Monday. Free article
Bloody Sunday families slam proposed withholding of Saville Report

The families of the victims of Bloody Sunday have criticised NIO Secretary Shaun Woodward over a proposed 14-day delay between the Saville Report being handed to the British government and being presented to the families. At a press conference on Tuesday, representatives of the Bloody Sunday Families and Wounded revealed that they have written to Woodward and Lord Saville, asking them to publish the report at the point of delivery. Adams praises Ballymurphy families' determination

Sinn Féin west Belfast MP Gerry Adams on Thursday 18 February unveiled a mural in Beechmount Avenue in Belfast in support of the campaign by the families of 11 people killed by the British Army in August 1971. "I want to commend the work of the families and their determination and courage in continuing to pursue this campaign over many difficult years," he said. "The families have been engaged in a whole series of initiatives to raise public consciousness about those events. Free article
A Greek tragedy

"All euro area members must conduct sound national policies in line with the agreed rules". This was the opening line in a statement from EU heads of government made in Brussels on 11 February. The statement was about Greece and it welcomed the austerity measures being introduced by the errant EU member in an attempt to meet the EU's demand to bring its budgetary deficit down by 4% in 2010. In other words - commit economic sabotage on itself to fulfill the wishes of an outdated and outmoded economic big brother. Free article
High Court rejects Basque extradition attempt

Galway students gathered in the Cairnes Theatre, NUIG last Tuesday 16 February to hear Dublin Sinn Féin Chairperson Eoin O'Broin give a talk on Sinn Féin and the Politics of Left Republicanism. The event, which turned into a thoroughly enjoyable and engaging debate, was organised by the D'Arcy/Mellows Cumann in the college and attracted over 30 young Galway students. Free article
