SINN FÉIN West Belfast MP and President Gerry Adams along with MLAs Jennifer McCann and Francie Molloy MLA have met with the Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheál Martin. In the course of two separate meetings in Belfast on Thursday, 29 January Martin was introduced to the family of Damien Walsh a 17-year-youth killed by the UDA in March 1993 and then the families of 11 people from the Ballymurphy area who were killed by the British Parachute regiment in August 1971. 50 years of the Cuban Revolution

Half a century is really a short time in history but for the Cuban people this time has been an intensive period of changes that have transformed our nation. Morale high as party organisers plan ahead

JUST one year on from its inception Sinn Féin's Organisational Development Unit (ODU) had its first Anuual General Meeting. From the length and breath of the 26 counties Organisers gathered in Dublin on Saturday, 17 January for a daylong conference to assess the work of the previous year and to lay out the strategy for Sinn Féin in the 26 counties over the next year. Morale was high among those in attendance, and there was both confidence and determination that the ODU is the strategic tool necessary to carry the growing political momentum in the 26 counties. Louth Sinn Féin candidates selected

LOUTH Sinn Féin has selected the party's candidates to contest the local elections for the five county electoral areas with some strategic changes. The party now has five sitting councillors on Louth County Council: Tomás Sharkey and Jim Loughran (Dundalk/Carlingford), Kevin Meenan (Dundalk South), Pearse McGeough (Ardee Area), and Imelda Munster (Drogheda East). Journalist joins North Tipp ticket

NENAGH GUARDIAN former columnist and now freelance journalist Tom O'Donoghue is joining Councillor Seamie Morris in Sinn Féin's bid to win two seats on Nenagh Town Council in the local elections in June. Morris will also be running for the North Tipperary County Council in the Nenagh/Borrisokane area. Free article

Sinn Féin launch Laois/Offaly candidates

SINN FÉIN has launched its largest group of candidates in Laois/Offaly since the 1920s for the forthcoming local government elections. Speaking at the launch in The Heritage Hotel, Portlaoise on 27 January, Laois County Councillor Brian Stanley thanked members for his nomination to stand again for Portlaoise Town Council and Laois County Council. Diego - A triumph of the human spirit

THE English version of Diego - The True Story of a Colombian Guerrilla Fighter was launched last Friday in the Sinn Féin bookshop in Dublin. The writing of the work is a story in itself and a triumph of the human spirit. While in prison in La Modelo Prison in Bogata in 2003, Jim Monaghan of the Colombia Three met and befriended a Colombian ELN guerrilla fighter called Diego Fernando Lopez Jaramillo, who had lost both hands in a grenade explosion. Against all the odds, this young man, with the encouragement and support of Jim, managed to write a book, which Jim was able to get back to Ireland. Free article

THE death occurred in January of Tallaght republican and community activist Breda Bracken. At her funeral in Bohernabreena, County Dublin, Sinn Féin Councillor Seán Crowe described Breda as "a small woman, a pocketful of energy who packed a dozen lifetimes into her short life, fighting for her family, her community and her country".
