Wexford to honour Spanish Civil War hero

On Friday evening 7 September in Monageer Village members of Wexford Sinn Féin will hold the inaugural annual commemoration in honour of Tan War veteran and Spanish Civil War hero, Peter Daly. From a townland a few miles from Enniscorthy in County Wexford, Peter Daly was a Battalion Commander in the International Brigade when he was fatally injured during an assault to capture Purburell Hill near Quinto in north eastern Spain from the fascists during the Aragón offensive of August 1937. He died of his wounds on the 6 September in Benicasim Hospital. Free article

The issue of job evaluation for classroom assistants is a long running dispute. Indeed it has been running for 12 years. The results have been felt not just by classroom assistants but also in the classroom. It has damaged morale among classroom assistants and clearly not been good for our children. Free article

Call for retention of Longford cottage used by IRA

Mayor of Athlone, and Sinn Féin representative for Longford/Westmeath Councillor Paul Hogan has called for the retention of a cottage in Ballinalee, County Longford, which was used as a headquarters by an IRA Flying Column, under the command of Sean Mac Eoin, during the Battle of Ballinalee in 1920.
