All Ireland agenda Fianna Fáil may organise in the North

It is easy to be cynical about the announcement by Fianna Fáil at their Wicklow think-in that they are going to develop a strategy for organising the party on a 32-County basis. Even if it goes no further than this they will see political advantage in the headlines and will hope that it compounds the damage they believe they have done to Sinn Féin in the general election. But at a deeper level the move shows the success of the peace process spearheaded by Sinn Féin as other parties feel the need to address the All-Ireland agenda. Free article

Disability : Mary Lou appeals for 4,000 signatures

Sinn FÉIN Chairperson and Dublin MEP Mary Lou McDonald launched the party's signature drive in support of the European '1Million4Disability Campaign' in Dublin at the GPO on Saturday, 15 September, where she joined party activists collecting signatures. Free article

CAJ says police failed Rosemary Nelson

The Committee on the Administration of Justice (CAJ) met on Wednesday with the Police Ombudsman to receive a copy of her report into a complaint made by the organisation about RUC handling of threats against Rosemary Nelson in the lead-up to her murder in 1999. The report confirms CAJ's contention that RUC failed Rosemary Nelson. Free article

Suicide debate at Stormont

Sinn Féin continued to highlight the issue of suicide in Stormont this week when the party initiated a debate around funding and services. A motion tabled by West Belfast MLA Gerry Adams to set up an Ad Hoc committee was withdrawn after consultation with the DUP's chair of the Health Committee, Iris Robinson. Free article

Justice Minister faces High Court action over Wheelock death

THE FAMILY of Terence Wheelock, a young Dublin man who died in Garda custody, will go to the High Court in Dublin if 26-County Justice Minister Brian Lenihan does not grant an independent inquiry into his death. Free article
