THERE was much speculation last week around the future of the Assembly. Whatever about the speculation or wherever it emanated from, one thing is certain: there is still a number of issues outstanding that must be resolved if we are to continue to build on the success of the past 12 months. AS the price of oil soars to unprecedented levels, peak oil - the idea that the world is at or near the peak of oil production, after which it will gradually decline - is being taken seriously by a growing number of people.

AS PART of her civic education I have attempted to engage Ciara in a learned discussion of the Lisbon Treaty, determined not to influence her one way or the other, and perhaps to learn something new myself. Out of the mouths of babes and all that. "ARE WE out of our collective minds?" asked a typically fair and objective editorial in Saturday's Irish Times on the Lisbon Treaty. This followed an editorial in the previous day's paper which had published an opinion poll suggesting the 'No' side was in front for the first time in the campaign. |
