Wolfe Tone Commemoration: Organise now for major republican gathering
"What's Bodenstown?" a young Sinn Féin activist recently asked me. In times gone by the question would have been slightly alarming. "How could you not know that?" might have been the response. For years Bodenstown was the main national gathering of republicans and the occasion of the keynote political message of the year. It has long been eclipsed by the Sinn Féin Ard Fheis and other events but this year the re-constituted Coiste Chuimhneachán Náisiúnta of Sinn Féin is asking republicans to turn the event into a national mobilisation once again. If the proposed committee is a serious attempt to create the conditions for restoration of a fully functioning Executive and all-Ireland bodies then it will be worthwhile. We will perform a leadership role in such a body. Clondalkin: Strength and determination in the face of problems
The scourge of anti-social behaviour, afflicting many of our towns and cities, is usually accompanied by other social problems- all a direct result of Government policies. This week JOANNE SPAIN, Sinn Féin's Dublin Mid West General Election candidate, outlines the nature and extent of problems facing the people of Clondalkin in west Dublin and the valiant efforts of the local community to improve conditions. It was worth looking at the different ways the 'quality' papers treated this week's main news story - the national partnership and pay talks.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the death of Michael Davitt, father of the Irish Land League and pioneer of social justice. His legacy of linking the cause of Irish freedom to the struggle for social equality remains of major relevance to republicans in 2006. Recent social struggles in Davitt's native County of Mayo, highlight again the importance of his ideas. Fás agus Forbairt an Fhathaigh Shínigh Tá a lán tráchtairí anois ag maíomh gurb é an tSín an chumhacht is mó ar domhan a bheidh ag teacht aníos amach anseo. Agus tá roinnt fianaise le cur leis an tuairim seo. Tá geilleagar na Síne ag forbairt níos tapúla ná aon cheann eile ar domhan le fás 9% in aghaidh na bliana agus ní dócha go mbeidh aon laghdú ag teacht ar an bhfigiúir seo. |
