Election workers harassed

The PSNI has provoked outrage in Dungannon, County Tyrone, after it harassed Sinn Féin election workers last Wednesday night. A number of police vehicles circled the workers as they canvassed and puts up posters, eventually stopping to question them for a considerable period of time. Dungannon Sinn Féin Councillor Barry Monteith said the intimidation would not stop activists from carrying out their election work. Free article
TD says parents must be with children

Sinn Féin spokesperson on Justice, Equality and Human Rights, Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD has called on the Minister for Justice to make "an explicit commitment that no Irish child will be deprived of the care and company of their parents as the result of a deportation order made by him". Free article

MEP hosts Euro childcare conference

Sinn Féin MEP Mary Lou McDonald is to host a conference on childcare in Europe in Dublin next Saturday, 23 April. The conference, in the Axis Centre, Ballymun, will be addressed by speakers, childcare experts and political representatives from Ireland, Italy and Finland. Free article
Taoiseach challenged on A&E crisis

The crisis in hospital Accident and Emergency units and the Irish Nurses Organisation 'Enough is Enough' campaign were raised with Taoiseach Bertie Ahern by Sinn Féin's Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin in the Dáil on Wednesday. The party's Health spokesperson challenged the Taoiseach on the report of the Health and Safety Authority that A&E units are unsafe and have been reported to fire officers. Free article
