August 20th marks the death of Michael Devine, the 10th republican hunger striker to die in 1981. Born in Derry, Devine grew up in the tumult of the civil rights protests, internment and Bloody Sunday in January 1972. He died after 60 days on hunger strike. The same day that voters in Fermanagh and South Tyrone elected H-Block candidate Owen Carron as an MP. Free article
Fergal Caraher remembered 20 years on

IT’S HARD to believe that 20 years have passed since the cruel murder of Fergal Caraher by the British military on December 30th 1990. But as the huge crowds gathered in Cullyhanna to commemorate the occasion the reality of that fact was brought home.
People came from near and far, as they have done all down the years, to once again honour a brave life cut short in its prime.
