Video > H-Block and Armagh Hunger Strikes 1980 and 1981

IRELAND’S Hunger Strikes of 1980 and 1981 were a watershed in the Irish republican struggle.

Ten young Irish republican POWS gave their lives to restore political status for their fellow prisoners and defeat the British Government’s attempt to criminalise their struggle.

2011 sees the 30th anniversary of their sacrifice.

This video is about remembering that sacrifice.

For those who lived through that time it will bring back poignant memories; for those who were not born or are too young to remember, hopefully it will encourage you to play a part in Ireland’s struggle for freedom.

As Bobby Sands said:

Everyone has their own particular role to play. No part is too big or too small.

The nature of our struggle may have changed but our struggle continues.

Remember their sacrifice and don't just wish for a united Ireland – help make it happen.

One hundred thousand people pay their respects at the funeral of Bobby Sands
