Sinn Féin opposes Finance Bill and calls for immediate general election
FINE GAEL’S offer on Saturday to help the passage of the Government’s Finance Bill has exposed Fine Gael policies as being no different to those of Fianna Fáil, Sinn Féin TD Pearse Doherty said yesterday.
He said the Taoiseach should call a general election now.
Pearse, the party’s Finance spokesperson, said:
Sinn Féin is totally opposed to the Government’s Finance Bill, published on Friday.
He said it would be totally wrong for this Bill putting cuts into law was passed just weeks ahead of a general election for a new government.
The Taoiseach needs to call a general election now. It's time to let the people have their say.
Let the parties present their economic proposals and budgetary alternatives and let the people decide.
Fine Gael and Labour want to let the Government pass the Finance Bill because they’ve signed up to the ‘Consensus for Cuts’ and they have said they won’t reverse the cuts introduced in the Budget, he said.
Sinn Féin opposes the savage cuts outlined in the Budget and contained in the Finance Bill and Sinn Féin has set out a clear and credible economic alternative which for which we will be seeking a mandate.
