August 20th marks the death of Michael Devine, the 10th republican hunger striker to die in 1981. Born in Derry, Devine grew up in the tumult of the civil rights protests, internment and Bloody Sunday in January 1972. He died after 60 days on hunger strike. Gerry Adams extends condolences to Harte and McAreavey families

SINN FÉIN President Gerry Adams this afternoon visited the Harte family home in Tyrone. He was accompanied by Fermanagh & South Tyrone MP Michelle Gildernew.
Mr Adams extended his sincerest condolences to Michaela McAreavey’s family.
The Sinn Féin leader will attend the funeral in the morning.
