The death of Michael Devine

August 20th marks the death of Michael Devine, the 10th republican hunger striker to die in 1981. Born in Derry, Devine grew up in the tumult of the civil rights protests, internment and Bloody Sunday in January 1972. He died after 60 days on hunger strike. SPEAKING after attending the Irish Congress of Trades Unions rally at the Dáil today in opposition to cutbacks, Sinn Féin spokesperson on Social Protection Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD said Sinn Féin is the only voice in the Dáil that is opposing cutbacks.
