Concern over PSNI's use of plastic bullets

RELATIVES for Justice (RFJ ) have expressed "deep concern" at the firing of numerous plastic bullets in north Belfast on Monday 13 July. RFJ also urged anyone who sustained injuries to seek medical attention, particularly young people. The Police Ombudsman is reported to be investigating the use of plastic bullets by the PSNI that night. DUBLIN GAA three-times All-Ireland finalist Dr David Hickey, top kidney specialist at Beaumont Hospital, thinks that Department of Health chiefs should visit Cuba to learn from the Cuban health system. "How can it be," David asks, "that Cuba, an island of 11 million people, could be operating its health system on a budget of €300 million, the equivalent of the budget for Beaumont Hospital and deliver a world-class medical service?" 'An Bord Snip' threatens rural economy - Morgan

SINN FÉIN Economic Spokesperson and Louth TD Arthur Morgan has said that the government had to recognise the real and damaging implications for rural Ireland of implementing large parts of the McCarthy report. Morgan, who is drafting a report on creating jobs in the agri-food sector on behalf of the Oireachtas Enterprise and Employment Committee, dubbed the report a book-keeping exercise that took no account of what was needed to ensure a sustainable economic future for rural Ireland. McCarthy must meet INOU and MABS - Ó Snodaigh

SINN FÉIN Dublin TD Aengus Ó Snodaigh has called on Colm McCarthy and his co-authors of the Report of the Special Group on Public Services Numbers and Expenditure to meet with organisations such as the Irish National organisation of the Unemployed (INOU) and Money Advice and Budgeting Service (MABS) to discuss the impact of his proposed cuts on the most vulnerable. British cover-ups increase inquiry costs

RESPONDING to reports that the Inquiries into the murders of Robert Hamill, Rosemary Nelson and Billy Wright have so far cost £95m, Sinn Féin spokesperson on Truth issues Francie Molloy said that 'it is not the inquiries themselves which have cost money, it is the British government policy of concealment and cover-up which gave rise to them which has caused these costs'. Ó Snodaigh expresses disappointment at Councillor's action

Commenting on reports that recently elected Dublin City Councillor Louise Minihan has resigned from Sinn Féin, Dublin South Central TD Aengus Ó Snodaigh said: "There is deep disappointment among all those who worked closely with Louise, since she was co-opted to the council two years ago, that she chose to wait until after she was elected as a Sinn Féin councillor to take this course of action." Local government review refuses to recognise Irish-language rights

THE refusal of the Local Government Boundaries Commissioner (LGBC) in the Six Counties to consider recognition of bilingual English and Irish ward names in his report to the Department of the Environment has been criticised by Sinn Féin as showing complete disregard for the wishes of the Irish-speaking community in the North.
