Over forty activists opposed to the controversial Shell pipeline/refinery scheme proposed for Erris, County Mayo gathered in the pouring rain outside the Department of Justice in Dublin Friday last to protest against the imprisonment of three local fishermen on charges of assault which the men and the protestors strenuously deny. Ballymun Regeneration Limited (BRL), the Dublin City Council agency appointed to oversee the regeneration of Ballymun in Dublin's northside, is in direct contravention of its mission statement - to provide at least 20% local labour - and has failed in its duty to ensure all contracts awarded go to companies compliant with labour law, according to Andy Smith the Regional Organiser with the Building and Allied Trades'Union (BATU). Success for Kilkenny Youth Weekend

The second annual Kilkenny Youth Weekend took place in Kilkenny City on the weekend of 14 and 15 July. The weekend saw Ógra Shinn Féin activists from all over the country descend on the South-East. The weekend saw a mixture of political discussion and healthy debate as activists were treated to a wide-ranging Clár of events. The aim of the weekend was two-fold. Firstly, to galvanise support for Ógra in the area. The second was to bring Ógra activists from all over the country and provide them with a forum for debate and discussion. It was clear as activists returned home on Sunday afternoon that both aims were successful. Free article
