Plastic bullet compo victory
David Davidson, shot in the face with a plastic bullet by the RUC, in an unprovoked attack on July 14 1996 on the Crumlin Road has been awarded £25,000 compensation in Belfast High Court on Tuesday.
But Davidson still demands that those in the RUC who were responsible for the attack be made accountable. His mother said, ``somebody came out with a cheque book and said here's the money, go home and don't be annoying yourself. They have left me so that every time I see the police, I will be asking was it you.''
Following the disintegration of the RUC version of events in court, Davidson's solicitor Eamon McMenamin plans to demand a full investigation. He said, ``in my experience despite the victory of being awarded damages, the injured persons and family are left with a feeling of injustice. . .there is no real likelihood of any attempt to identify the [RUC] officer involved or to bring them before any disciplinary or criminal court.''
