Threat of eviction in the midst of plenty

By Tara O'Liaith

Yet another community facing the consequences of the Celtic Tiger are the residents of Crampton Buildings in the centre of Dublin's Temple Bar.

The residents now face the threat of eviction as the 54 flats and ground floor businesses are being put up for sale. Home to four generations of families and over 100 years old, the community of Crampton Buildings may come to an abrupt end, if private developers have their way.

Like any other community under siege from people who haven't got their best interests at heart, they have taken a stand against their future being left in the hands of private developers.

This has been applauded by Sinn Fein representative Daithi Doolan, who urges the residents to continue their stance as the ``outcome does not have to be eviction. The Corporation has the option of Shared Ownership, where the Corporation and tenants would each own 50% of the property''.

With the housing crisis in Dublin deepening, unfortunatly Crampton Buildings are yet another community facing destruction in the name of progress and profit.
