Francie Jordan Commemoration
A commemoration was held in Jonesborough, South Armagh to remember Vol Francie Jordan who was killed by the British army on active service in Bessbrook on 4 June 1975.
A crowd of over 200 people gathered in the small village and marched to the Republican plot in the local graveyard. Wreaths were laid on behalf of Oglaigh na hEireann and Sinn Fein Cumanns in Jonesborough, Dromintee, Killeen and north Louth. The crowd was addressed by Jim McAllister who spoke of the great courage and bravery of this young Volunteer. ``Francie Jordan left the legacy to continue this struggle and bring it to fruition. Last year Sinn Fein took a majority in South Armagh, this is a message that yes, Francie was right,'' said McAllister. ``Francie didn't want an assembly any more than we do but we must ensure that this assembly looks at the rights of the nationalist people or looks at nothing,'' he continued, ``we must enter these elections united, We want unity, freedom, justice, peace and equality and nothing less.''
