Larne threats

ON THE morning of 14 January the Larne Gazette received an anonymous phone call from a woman who claimed to be reading a prepared statement from a group calling itself the Loyalist defence force (LDF). She said that like the LVF they were not on ceasefire and threatened to make its presence felt on Friday 16 January but would give the Gazette a 30 minute warning. Nothing subsequently happened.

However, the growing intimidation of Catholics in Larne continues. In the early hours of Sunday 25 January, two Catholic homes in St John's Place were attacked and their windows smashed. In the early hours of Monday morning a Catholic home in Lealies Drive in Craigyhill was petrol bombed. This is the second attack on the home in Craigyhill in recent weeks. Sinn Fein's Catherine O'Hagan said: ``These three families just want to get on with their lives, instead they have to live with loyalist intimidation.''
