Register To Vote Now - Adams

Sinn Féin West Belfast MP Gerry Adams has described the disenfranchisement of over 80,000 people from the current electoral register for the north as a 'damning indictment of the registration process' and he has urged 'those who have had their right to vote taken away to challenge the electoral office's decision and register to vote now.'

Adams has expressed particular concern at the loss of 8,000 eligible voters have been taken off the west Belfast register.

The Sinn Féin leader said: "Tens of thousands of voters have been ripped off the register by the actions of the registration office. I intend to urgently speak to the British government and demand that the previous register should be rolled over to allow for its use in any Assembly election in March. Citizens should also have the ability to register to vote up to 11 days before polling day."
