August 20th marks the death of Michael Devine, the 10th republican hunger striker to die in 1981. Born in Derry, Devine grew up in the tumult of the civil rights protests, internment and Bloody Sunday in January 1972. He died after 60 days on hunger strike. Billy Wright Inquiry leaves unanswered questions

THE report of the inquiry into the killing in Long Kesh in 1997 by INLA prisoners of Billy Wright, leader of the Loyalist Volunteer Force, has failed to answer many questions, including the unionist death squad boss’s relationship with senior unionist politicians, Sinn Féin Assembly member John O’Dowd said.
