Israeli activist speaks out

Tuesday 9 November marked the anniversary of Kristallnacht, the 1938 attack by the Nazis against Jewish interests in Germany. Dalit Baum, of the Coalition of Women for Justice in Israel - a coalition of nine different organisations that work for peace - has been touring Europe and the United States to highlight the illegality and cruelty of Israel's Wall. Mayo protests asbestos incinerator plan

Sinn Féin reps meet Minister on Sellafield

Sinn Féin Environment spokespersons Willie Clarke MLA and Arthur Morgan TD (pictured) met with the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government Dick Roche on Tuesday at Leinster House. During the meeting they pressed the Minister to intensify Government efforts to have the Sellafield nuclear processing plant closed. Free article

Tax breaks for private hospital developers slammed

The Taoiseach has been challenged by Sinn Féin Health spokesperson Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin on the massive tax breaks that the Government gives to multi-millionaire developers of private hospitals. During Leaders' Questions in the Dáil on Wednesday, Ó Caoláin said it was "crazy for this State to reward multi-millionaire developers and speculators for building private medical facilities, while at the same time our public hospital system is in crisis". Newry councillors visit South Dublin

A cross-party delegation of councillors from Newry and Mourne District Council received a warm welcome from their colleagues in South Dublin County Council last Monday night. The reciprocal visit came a week after a delegation from South Dublin County Council travelled North to visit Newry and Mourne as part of the Confederation of European Councillors European Exchange programme. SF backs building workers

Speaking on an emergency motion at a meeting of South Dublin County Council, Sinn Féin Councillors Mark Daly and Cathal King backed a delegation of builders in the public gallery who had protested outside against their treatment by a sub-contractor hired by Turkish construction firm GAMA to work on a council building site. As well as unsafe conditions, these workers have now seen their promised wages disappear. Free article
Schoolboy kicked unconscious

Two schoolboys were hospitalised after a gang of up to 15 loyalist youths set upon them as they got off their school bus on Thursday 4 November at Newbuildings, just outside Derry City. Free article
Filipino families attacked
11 November 2004
Unionist paramilitaries were behind a racist attack on three houses and two cars belonging to Filipino families living in Queen Victoria Gardens and Fortwilliam Parade in the Skegoniel area of North Belfast at around 1.50am on Tuesday 9 November. The homes and cars had Combat 18 logos, swastikas and racist slogans daubed on them. Free article
