Callanan calls for broadening of child abuse inquiry

While welcoming the announcement of an inquiry into the handling of clerical abuse allegations in the diocese of Ferns, Daniel Callanan has called for the inquiry to be extended to all areas where there have been serious allegations of child sex abuse. He added that the inquiry should not be restricted to allegations made against the clergy. Free article

Drogheda Hospital scandal - Public inquiry needed

The Minister for Health and Children, Mícheál Martin, should establish a full public inquiry into how dozens of unnecessary caesarean hysterectomies were carried out by consultants at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, according to Sinn Féin TD Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin. He also called for a scheme of compensation for the women whom he described as "victims of a form of medical butchery". Free article
