Sinn Féin spokesperson on Housing, councillor Seán Crowe has slammed the government for failing to address the housing crisis and abandoning thousands of families in sub standard accommodation. Crowe has backed calls from the National Economic and Social Forum calling for a National Housing Authority to be established. Free article

Cnámh Droma

A truly amazing project has started amongst the families of republican ex-prisoners. It's called Cnámh Droma, a Gaelic name which means, appropriately, 'back bone'. The name represents all those people who feel that they have borne and continue to bear the brunt of the republican struggle over the years, even though they have not been recognised for doing so - namely, the families of republican prisoners, ex-prisoners, displaced people and all those who have given so much of their lives during the years of conflict in Ireland. Eircom fiasco exposed

This week Eircom's short life as public company ended and so did one of the most appalling chapters in the history of free market fiascos in the Irish economy. Shareholders, who invested in the company in 1999, were left with a loss of one third of their initial investment. There was no shareholder or stakeholder democracy.
