Government Formation : Harney unacceptable as Health Minister

Commenting on Tuesday on the news that Fianna Fáil and the Green Party had agreed to participate in a cross-party Government, Sinn Féin Dáil leader Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin said that a new Programme for Government must bring about real change. He said Sinn Féin would decide on how it would vote in the Dáil on Thursday on the basis of the Programme for Government presenting. Free article
5,000 march in Belfast for Irish Language Act

Up to 5,000 people paraded from West Belfast to Writer's Square in the city centre demanding that the British Government introduce an Irish Language Act last Saturday. Free article

Election 2007 : Ard Chomhairle meeting initiates widespread discussion

Against an election result that fell below expectations and with the make-up of the new Irish Government sill unclear, members of the Sinn Féin Ard Chomhairle met in Dublin last Saturday to begin a wide process of consultation within the party at all levels. This consultation process will take stock of Sinn Féin's performance and chart a way forward for the republican political project in the 26 Counties. Crucially these discussions will focus on what needs to be done between now and 2009 when 26 County Local Government and European elections will take place. Free article

A woman who conceived as a result of rape was ordered by a family court, which proceeded in her absence, to facilitate the father of the child access. The child is five and does not know of his father's existence. The judge ruled that the mother should be given two weeks to explain the father's existence to the child. Free article
