THE Lisbon Treaty result has exposed the undemocratic nature of the EU structures. The 1937 Constitution, however, recognises that it is the people and not the government that is sovereign. This underscores the benefits of protecting such democratic principles. I have no doubt that many of the other EU states' voters would also have rejected the Lisbon Treaty if their entitlement to a referendum had been respected. Free article

GOOD NEWS for our small but growing Norwegian readership. An Phoblacht readers, though not many readers of anything else, will recall that Norway's oil and gas exploration company, Statoil, owns a substantial share of the Corrib gas field off the coast of Mayo. For a number of years, Shell to Sea activists have fought both for the gas to be processed off-shore but also for a fairer share of the profits from the find. Free article
