Dublin City Council backs glass workers

A motion was put forward by the Sinn Féin group on Dublin City Council on Monday calling upon the Board of Management of Ardagh Glass to immediately set about implementing the redundancy package recommended by the Labour Relations Court for the workers at the Irish Glass Bottle factory. The motion was passed unanimously.

Dublin South East Sinn Féin representative Daithí Doolan said afterwards: "Dublin City Councillors recognised the wider implications of the Ardagh Management's dismissal of the LRC recommendation. This shows that this is not just a localised issue. The repercussions will be felt right across the state if the Ardagh Management is allowed to get away with this.

"It is now high time that the government ceased undermining the LRC and intervened on behalf of the workers and the trade unions. We are in the process of trying to arrange a meeting with an Taoiseach to bring this about."
