Boycott Salthill war show call

The Galway Alliance Against War (GAAW) has urged people not to attend the Salthill Air Show.

In a statement a spokesperson for GAAW stated: „There is nothing glorious or spectacular about these warplanes. They are weapons of mass destruction - they kill, they maim, they terrorise. Their deadly purpose was evident in the slaughter of a wedding party in Afghanistan this week.

"This war-show is an affront to Irish neutrality. It is therefore even a greater scandal that a cabinet minister, Eamon Ó Cuív, should agree to open this obscenity. Ó Cuív, who only months ago liked to present himself as a defender of Irish neutrality and sovereignty, is now complicit in further eroding our neutrality.

"This war-show comes only weeks after US Hercules warplanes were on military exercise over Ó Cuív's bailiwick of Connemara. In the war in Afghanistan the Hercules planes are used to drop the notorious Daisy Cutter bombs. These exercises had no military purpose other than to attack Irish neutrality. Ó , now comfortably cosseted in the Cabinet, remained silent."
