Davis for Dublin North
Sinn Féin has selected local man Mick Davis to be the party's candidate in Dublin North. "We have taken this step," he told An Phoblacht, "to make clear to the people of North Dublin that they will have a real choice in this election, to vote for a community based candidate who is a member of the only all-Ireland party."
Many people in Rivervalley will know Mick, and also his wife Christine, from their longstanding involvement in the local community. Mick is a founding member of the Rivervalley Community Centre and the Rivervalley and Rathingle Residents Association. Additionally, he has been involved in senior citizen activities and summer projects for local children.
Mick was a high profile trade union activist with the Communications Workers Union (CWU) in Eircom, where he worked as a Team Leader until last year, when he left the company. Mick was first elected to his local committee in 1990 and in 1993 was elected Branch Secretary, a post he held for seven years. In 1999, he was elected to the National Executive Council.
As a member of his local Sinn Féin Coleman/Fullerton cumann, Mick has engaged in local as well as national campaigns, including the Nice Treaty referendum campaign, the Fingal bin charge protest, local '81 Hunger-strike commemorations, the Beaumount Hospital under-12s Accident & Emergency petition, and the Balbriggan beach cleanup. He is committed to continuing his work for the people of Dublin North in Leinster House.
