Joby McTeague

The sudden and untimely death of Joby McTeague of Derrada, Ballinamore, County Leitrim, at his home on 2 October, came as a great shock to republicans throughout South Leitrim and West Cavan.

Joby was a well known republican activist throughout Leitrim and Cavan since the early 1970s. He was involved in all aspects of republican life as well as being a dedicated community worker in his native Corraleehan. His door was always open to republicans who were in need of food and shelter and as a result he suffered regular harassment and intimidation by the Gardaí and Special Branch.

Speaking at his graveside, Sligo Alderman Seán MacManus paid tribute to Joby's unselfish and untiring work on behalf of the Republican Movement.

To his wife Nora, his sister, brothers and extended family and friends we offer our deepest sympathy. May the soil of his native Corraleehan rest gently on his soul.
