Sean MacDiarmada commemoration postponed
The Sean MacDiarmada march and commemoration due to be held on 13 May in Kiltyclogher has been postponed due to the continuing risks associated with spread of Foot and Mouth disease. The organising committee will monitor the situation and hope to arrange a suitable alternative event later this year in the North Leitrim village.
According to committee spokesman, Councillor Michael Colreavy, ``one possibility is that we arrange a commemoration and/or other events to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the H-Block hunger strikes. It would be fitting indeed that Sean Mac Diarmada and Joe McDonnell, hunger striker and election candidate for Sligo/Leitrim, be suitably and jointly honoured.''
