Doolan will contest Dublin South-East

Sinn Féin has named Daithí Doolan, a 32-year-old community development worker living in Pearse Street, as its general election candidate for Dublin South-East.

Doolan is a well-known local community activist, particularly in the areas of youth, drugs, housing and the campaign against the incinerator for the Poolbeg Peninsula.

He is the elected representative of residents from Pearse Street, Ringsend and Sandymount on the Dublin Docklands Development Authority's Local Consultative Forum. He is an active member of a local housing co-operative and has been prominent in protests against the spread of unwanted high-rise developments.

In the 1999 local elections, Doolan was in the shake-up for the final Corporation seat in Dublin South-East. He is chairperson of Dublin Sinn Féin and a member of the party's ruling Ard Chomhairle.
