Women's work to be highlighted in Galway

Next Saturday, 3 February, an event in the Town Hall Theatre, Galway, will highlight the cause of establishing a paid holiday to value women's work.

An exhibition of women's unwaged work in the foyer from 1pm onwards will be supported by Women in Media and Entertainment and the St Bridget's Senior Citizens Group, to be followed by the theatrical reinactment of a 26-County Seanad debate that took place last year.

The debate will be based on David Norris's unanimously accepted motion calling for the establishment of a national paid holiday to value women's work. An Phoblacht is assured that the debate will be far from hum drum and that some liberties will be taken.

This event coincides with the founding of a radio station today, Thursday 1 Febuary, going onto the airwaves at FM102, under the name Radio Pirate Woman. The station will broadcast from 11am to 1pm and 10pm until late until Sunday 1 April.
