O'Donnell wants housing shortage addressed

Sinn Féin's Joe O'Donnell is calling on the housing executive to address the serious housing problem in the Short Strand area.

``Due to the recent redevelopment of the area, the housing stock does not cater for the rising number of young families who now wish to remain in the area,'' he told An Phoblacht. ``This situation is now critical.

``The Housing Executive should implement its procedural criteria in the allocation of housing in the Short Strand. This is historically known as one of the most underhoused areas in Belfast and this needs to be addressed''.

The Sinn Féin representative is seeking an urgent meeting with the Housing Executive.

O'Donnell says he is delighted to have been selected to fight both the East Belfast Westminster and local government elections for Sinn Féin.

The party is confident of taking a council seat in East Belfast for the first time ever. ``With the continual rise in the Sinn Féin vote in East Belfast, a council set is achievable in the next election,'' said O'Donnell. ``In the last council election the Alliance Party took the final seat with transfers from the SDLP, pipping Sinn Féin by 104 votes.''
