Ongoing sectarian campaign
A second Catholic family in North Belfast has been targeted by loyalist pipe bombers since last Friday 15 October.
Just two days after a Catholic family was attacked by loyalists in the Deerpark Road area, a second family in nearby Cliftondene Crescent was targeted.
On Sunday night, 17 October, a pipe bomb, made up of a five-inch steel pipe and containing powder and a fuse, was thrown at the house.
Sinn Féin Assembly member for North Belfast, Gerry Kelly branded the attack purely sectarian.
Kelly said: ``The attack comes against a backdrop of anti-Catholic violence in this area over the last five to six weeks. This is a mixed area and, as has been intimated to me, the overwhelming majority of people want to live in peace.
``The reality is, however, that Catholic residents of the Cliftondene Gardens area are living in fear of their lives. Good fortune alone has to this point prevented serious injury. It is surely time for all people with influence and in particular those with influence over the people responsible for this attack to do what they can to bring this sectarian campaign of violence and intimidation to a halt.''
