Whitewell `peace wall' remains open

Local residents from the Whitewell and Greencastle areas in North Belfast have demanded that the RUC take action to close the gate in the Serpentine Road `peace wall' after two more loyalist attacks on nationalist homes in Whitewell Crescent. In separate incidents, two homes were attacked, one twice, last Sunday and Tuesday.

Paul McKernon, of the Greencastle Residents Association, told An Phoblacht that despite a number of high profile attacks on nationalists in recent months and these two most recent attacks, ``the RUC are still leaving the gates open till 8pm or 8.30pm, despite requests to them for immediate action''.
