I think before we accept what NATO says, we need to look at what NATO members have done and are doing... In reality, NATO is largely the USA and it follows the requirements of U.S. foreign policy... the USA has backed some of the most vicious right-wing murdering regimes the world has ever seen... Ireland should stay away from PfP and work to stengthen the UN against NATO expansionism.

Letter to last week's Examiner opposing entry into the PfP.

The study highlights that paid employment is the most efficient route out of poverty for women, and particularly, for those heading up households... For too long, financial institutions have been getting away with far too much.

Editorial in The Examiner, Friday 28 May.

I had a feeling growing up that we (Catholics) were second-class citizens - intuitively I felt that... July 12, which is the big Protestant celebration of the year; we'd stay indoors. I could never quite figure why, because all my mates were out there playing... It just didn't make sense to me at all.

Ballymena born actor Liam Neeson on growing up in the town, quoted in American magazine George.

This is a significant step towards equality. We first entered the chamber 17 years ago, but recently there has been a significant sea-change. There was a time when unionists did everything except acknowledge the rights of our electorate. Now things are different. We are confident that one one of our councillors will be lord mayor next year.

Sinn Féin Councillor Michael Brown on the news that the SDLP is backing a Sinn Féin deputy lord mayor of Belfast, Irish News, Monday 31 May.

All they were concerned about was that we were Catholics, they were screaming `Fenian bastards' at us and said they were going to kill us.
