Irish stopped by British police seven times a year
A shocking survey carried out by a British criminologist has shown that Irish people living in Britain are stopped, searched and questioned by British police officers up to seven times a year.
This is treble the number of times that English people are stopped by the police. The 1,000-people survey was conducted by professor Jock Young of Middlesex University.
Young found that the British police ``stop working class Irish people to a saturation level and they do it right through the age ranges''. He has concluded that the Irish and Black communities in Britain are victims of institutionalised racism.
Professor Young has also called for the findings of the Lawrence Inquiry to be widened to cover the Irish community in Britain.
