RUC passing report to discredited Stevens condemned

Pat Finucane's brother, Martin, has condemned the decision of RUC Chief Ronnie Flanagan to pass the British Irish Rights Watch report into collusion between the crown forces and the loyalists who killed his brother's murder, to the Deputy Commissioner for the London Metropolitan Police, John Stevens.

Finucane, spokesperson for the Derry based human rights organisation the Pat Finucane Centre, founded in memory of his brother, said Flanagan should have no role in referring the report to Stevens. Finucane added that the previous Stevens investigations into crown force/loyalist collusion remains unpublished.

The British Irish Rights Watch report was given to the Dublin and London governments on the same day last month as over 1,200 lawyers worldwide demanded an international inquiry into the murder. The report has also embarrassed the Six County Law Society that took an executive decision to stop it's own human rights committee from considering the report.
