Sinn Fein initiates joy-riding task force

A proposal by Larry O'Toole, Sinn Féin representative for Dublin North East, for the establishment of a community-led task force to deal with the problem of joyriding which has beset many Dublin communities has met with progress.

O'Toole recently attended a meeting of people from the Coolock area of Dublin, public representatives, youth leaders, Dublin Corporation officials and high-ranking gardai, the sole aim of which was to tackle the joyriding problem.

Speaking after the meeting Larry O'Toole commented: ``I am very pleased that the various voluntray groups who work tirelessley within these communities were finally given the opportunity to come together with gardai and Dublin Corporation to find a solution to this menace. I am also very happy that my proposal for dealing with the problem is to be implmented immediately. I called some time ago for a task force to be set up comprising residents of the local communities, local youth represntation, voluntary and statutory groups, Dublin Corporation and gardai.''

O'Toole added: ``Through my presence on this task force I will try and make sure that a long-term answer is found to this problem instead of a quick-fix solution. ``
