Loyalists attack Catholic

Le Peadar Whelan
Sinn Fein councillor Sean Hayes has accused the RUC of dismissing an incident on the Ormeau Road last Monday March 1 when a Catholic family threatened by loyalists were treated with disdain by the RUC.

According to the South Belfast representative the incident began when a member of the family was attacked by loyalists as he made his way home to Ballynafeigh. After the attack the loyalists warned the man that they would return to burn his home down.

When the family went to the RUC to report the incident the RUC, ``dismissed the concerns of the family about the attack and their concern's about their safety.

``This latest case proves the RUC are incapable of providing a policing service. They are not interested in challenging loyalist attacks on Catholics''.

Meanwhile North Belfast Sinn Fein councillor Danny Lavery has urged nationalists to be on their guard after loyalist threats from the Orange Volunteers and the Red Hand Defenders were issued throughout North Belfast.

According to Mr Lavery threats were issued to a numbers of businesses in the Whitewell area by the Orange Volunteers but later this threat was broadened out to include all taxi firms based in the north of the city.
