RUC raid ``a vindictive act''

The RUC raid on the Felons club rooms in Belfast on Wednesday morning is the latest in a long line of raids carried out by the RUC.

``It is part of the RUC's continuing campaign against the Association,'' said Felons Association spokesperson Liam Shannon.

A large force of RUC personnel raided the Association's premises and removed furniture, including tables and chairs.

And according to Dickie Glenholmes, also a member of the Association, who was present during the RUC raid ``this constant harassment is part of the RUC campaign to shut the club down, but it will not work''.

Glenholmes said that during the raid the RUC ``made accusations against the Association, but we refute their allegations totally'' and he thanked those elected representatives of Sinn Fein who were on the scene to support the Felons while the RUC raided the premises.

Sinn Fein's Gerry Kelly said, ``this raid and the continual harassment of the Felons and its members further underlines the fact that the RUC is incapable of impartial policing''.
