Meehan urges support for Saoirse train
The Saoirse-organised train journey to Dublin planned for 18 October is ``an imaginative project that should be supported by republicans everywhere,'' said Saoirse's Six County chair Martin Meehan.
``We shouldn't take the release of POWs for granted'', he said. ``To date no women POWs have been released and there are still POWs in jail in England''.
The train is due to leave Belfast at 10am on Sunday 18 October and has been organised to coincide with the Independence rally organised in Dublin on the same day. The train will pick up supporters in Lurgan, Portadown, Newry and Dundalk.
Meanwhile a Saoirse conference will take place on Sunday November 1 in the Felons club in Belfast. Set to discuss future strategy the conference will run between 2.00pm and 5.00pm.
Inviting republicans and those who have worked on the prisoner issue in the past Martin Meehan said that ``it is important that we have an input from as wide a range of contributors as possible so that we can assess the state of play at the minute as well as assess the work done over the past year''.
Prior to the conference the National Graves Association will conduct an hour-long tour of Milltown Cemetery, beginning at 11.30am.
