New Lodge mural unveiled

Brendan `Bik' McFarlane ex-POW and former OC of the H Blocks unveiled a stunning new mural by Belfast artists Danny Devenney and Marty Lyons on Sunday 12 October. The mural, representing the prison struggle through the years, shows images of the hunger strikers and the political status campaign during the 70s and 80s. It is situated on the New Lodge Road at the corner of Ludlow Square.

Speaking after unveiling the mural McFarlane said, ``it is essential for republicans to continue their support for the Saoirse campaign. It is vitally important therefore, that the attendance at rallies and demonstrations be increased''. He added, ``Republican prisoners depend greatly on the support of the people, from areas such as New Lodge. This support is their guarantee that the Brits will have to pay attention and act''.
