Diarmuid O'Neill remembered in Cork

Republicans from Cork City and West Cork gathered at the graveside of IRA Volunteer Diarmuid O'Neill in Timoleague, West Cork on Sunday 28 September to mark the first anniversary of his death.

O'Neill was shot to death by British police in London on 23 September 1996. He was unarmed.

Wreaths were laid on behalf of Sinn Féin in Cork City and County and Cork Command, Oglaigh na hEireann, and a minute's silence was observed. The simple but dignified ceremony was chaired by Clonakilty Sinn Féin Councillor Cionnaith O Suilleabháin, who paid tribute to O'Neill's sacrifice and called for support for Sinn Féin's effort in relation to the peace process.
