Civil rights activists to be honoured

The evening of Friday 30 May will mark the fourth annual commemoration evening organised by the Antrim and Derry Sinn Féin Comhairle Ceanntair. A large attendance is expected at what has now become a popular date in the local republican calendar.

The event was established four years ago as a means of recognising individuals who have contributed to political struggle in Ireland and to create a social focal point for the area's republican community.

The themes of previous evenings have included marking the contribution of deceased republicans in the two counties and the role of the area's Prisoners Dependants Fund committees. This year's theme is to honour individuals who have advanced the issue of civil rights as an integral part of the wider political struggle. The honorees are Joe McVeigh, Mary Nelis, Oliver Kearney and Henry McAlinden

So for an enjoyable evening of politics, culture and craic come to Toomebridge at 9pm 30 May. Admission is only £3.
