Harvey memorial unveiled

On Sunday 2,000 people gathered at Flynn's junction outside Crossmaglen for the unveiling of a monument to Volunteer Séamus Harvey who was killed 20 years ago.

The monument marks the spot where Séamus Harvey was killed and it was unveiled by his brother, Seán.

Giving the main oration, local councillor Jim McAllister paid tribute to Séamus Harvey and spoke of the thoughts that lay behind the erection of memorials. ``The driving force for this memorial was the desire of Séamus's comrades, many of whom were also his pals, to honour his memory; and to tell future generations that there was a man called Séamus Harvey who believed in freedom and democracy for all our people and who was shot down by foreign soldiers just over the hill from his own home.''
