McElwee honoured in Bellaghy

A commemoration was held at Bellaghy at the graveside of Thomas McElwee On Sunday 6 August. The proceedings were chaired by the local Sinn Féin MLA, Geraldine Dougan and main speaker was West Tyrone MLA Barry McElduff. McElduff spoke of the huge role played by Thomas Mc Elwee in defeating Britain's criminalisation programme and of the very high esteem in which the Hunger Strikers and their families are held to this day and of the great interest in events of 1981 amongst today's youth.
