Nine for Strabane District Council

Sinn Féin has selected nine candidates to contest the Derg, Glenelly and Mourne Electoral Areas of Strabane District Council in the local elections.

In 2001, Sinn Féin secured seven seats and became the largest party grouping on the council and is confident of building upon this success this time around.

In 2001, Sinn Féin candidates Ivan Barr, Danny Breslin, Brian McMahon and Jarlath McNulty secured 50.3% of the entire vote in Mourne Electoral Area and are aiming to build upon this mandate this time round.

In Glenelly, Sinn Féin is confident that Thomas O'Neill, from Hollyhill, will be elected alongside hardworking Sinn Féin Councillor Claire McGill.

Last time around, Sinn Féin narrowly missed out on taking a third seat in the Derg Electoral Area. This time around, young Aghyaran man Kieran Maguire is seeking to regain the seat comfortably secured by outgoing Councillor Eamon McGarvey. He is being joined by Gerard Foley, of Clady, who narrowly missed out on being elected last time out and by party stalwart Councillor Charlie McHugh.
