Belfast sectarian intimidation

• An apartment block that has been the target of regular sectarian attacks in the loyalist Sandy Row area of South Belfast had a number of windows broken shortly before midnight on Thursday 30 September.

Catholic residents have been repeatedly intimidated since the complex opened two years ago.

In May, a sectarian leaflet calling for Catholic residents to be expelled was handed out in the area and 500 loyalists picketed the apartment block.

• Jailed UFF leader Johnny Adair has said he will leave the North of Ireland when he is released from Maghaberry jail in January next year.

Adair confirmed he will travel to England to live with his family but said he will return to the North some day.

Adair's wife Gina and her two youngest children have been living in Bolton since fleeing the Shankill Road in February 2002 after a feud with the mainstream UDA.

"Make no mistake, I am still a dedicated loyalist and I will return some day, either on my own or with my family," said Adair. "If it is better for my family that we live together in England when I am released so be it."

The one time commander remains unapologetic for his role in the UDA feud and said there are people out there who were supposed to be loyalists but were nothing more than treacherous cowards.

"They know who they are and I know who they are. Some day they will have to face me. I can live with myself and I can wait."

• Adair's son Johnathan had his sentence for drug dealing reduced in London's Court of Appeal on Friday 1 October.

The 19-year-old, with an address at Chorley New Road, Horwich, Bolton, was sentenced to five years earlier this year after he sold heroin and crack cocaine to undercover police who were taking part in an operation to crack down on drug dealing in Bolton.

Adair had his sentence cut from five years to three years and nine months.

• And a Belfast city centre nightclub used as a drug dealing den by the UVF has been closed down by the PSNI after 800 ecstasy tablets were seized following searches of the premises on Saturday night 2 October.

In addition to the ecstasy tablets, illegal gambling machines, cigarettes and alcohol were also removed.
