Memoirs of a revolutionary

ONE of the last two surviving members of the International Brigade that fought against Franco's forces in the Spanish Civil War, Bob Doyle, was in the Sinn Féin bookshop in Dublin on Wednesday to sign copies of his memoirs, titled Rebel Without a Pause.

Doyle was born in 1916 in the North King Street area of Dublin's inner city.

The book charts his life from tenements to orphanage to joining the IRA, to his support for the Republican Congress and on to his experiences in Spain, his release and later experiences in the Trade Union Movement in England. This snapshot cannot do justice to an extraordinary man who has lives a remarkable life on the left. Buy the book, which is available now from Sinn Féin bookshops.
